Currently I am on the trial version and I love it. Dirac appears as windows device in Dirac. Of course the technology has come a loooong way in the 10 years since I first got it. Wanna save your hard-earned money and have Dirac Live to Roon without buying a NAD M33 (USD 5000) or MiniDSP SHD (USD 1200) Install Dirac Live Standalone on your W10 Roon Server and enjoy seamlessly Dirac and Roon. This yielded the dual improvements I recognized with Unity: sounds in the correction range got tighter/clearer, while details above that range were unmasked and easier to hear. I followed the instructions in the manual to set up the Dynaudio Focus 10s, first installing. DSP horsepower wasn't anywhere near as powerful back then, so they concentrated the correction below 300Hz and just targeted frequencies with the longest decay times. Dirac Live, which is the objective of this follow-up review. Process for using Dirac is essentially the same in terms of measurement and setting up target curves for the optimiser to work against. The standalone versions are rumoured to become available next month. Dirac’s licence tiers start at £247 / 259 / AU366 for limited bandwidth optimisation of frequencies from 20Hz to 500Hz while full bandwidth calibration (up to 20kHz) or bass control for a single subwoofer each cost £333 / 349. The Dirac 2 available to download now is for use with external hardware like AV receivers or some DSP systems (like from miniDSP). It's a difference I'm very familiar with, having added room correction in 2004 to my old Lex processor. While in previous years all Arcam’s AVRs featured Dirac Live Room Correction software. I could hear more clarity, for example, in the upper range of female vocals even though Unity wasn't correcting those particular frequencies. In addition, since these lower frequency sounds were decaying quicker, the side effect was that they no longer masked sounds at higher frequencies, exposing details that were previously obscured by the lingering bass. Lower frequency sounds that were ringing (had longer decay times) got tightened up and sounded sharper most noticable on bass guitar plucks, drum whacks, etc. The most audible change was the improvement in clarity.
